What's the secret of strings of Xmas lights that only half light up?even if they worked the year before?
I know they’re cheap and easily replaced but that kind of consumerism is what overfills land fills, ruins our ecology and our economy…just throwing it away and buying new ones every year! This seems to happen even to lights that only have one year of use! Half the string will light, half will not. I try changing key bulbs (at the end, or at the break) and nothing? Anyone have any expertise with this?

well it is cheap u get what u pay for. i usually just use the half strings and when it goes all the way out i throw it. i do buy more every year and i am real careful how i put them up. i think its like that old saying wal mart fall apart. if u buy it there it will eventually fall apart. well my lights are always the 2 dollar box from wal mart and i dont expect them to last. i put them up as carefully as i can take them all down on thanksgiving test them throw out what can’t be used. i have 1 string of gold lights that i bought at home depot in 2002 still works. its a quality thing. if u want them to last spend the extra cash. if u cheep like me expect to reinvest every season.

-The plug-in has fuses in it. Check them to make sure one hasn’t blown.
-Check for a loose light bulb connection.
-Check for blown bulb. Some lights will not function properly with one.
-Check the wires for any sign of shorts, frays,or bad connections.
Hope one of these helps you out.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
